Eulogy read at the funeral service

Gay was born in Kilburn, London in 1942 to Mabel and Martin Hughes had two children, Gay and Christine. Gay being the oldest by 6 years. Gay spent her early school years and teens in London . After leaving school Gay enrolled at Pitman’s college to study shorthand and typing. In 1958 Gay met Ray and they married in 1961. They lived in crouch end London for two years. Gay shared Ray’s enjoyment of music and they often visited Ronnie Scotts Jazz club in London, Their 1st son Nicholas was born in 1962 and they then moved to Norfolk where their 2nd son Douglas was born in 1965. They remained in Norfolk for the next 40 years .During this time Gay occasionally helped Ray in their restaurant . At the same she worked as an auxiliary nurse at a Leonard Cheshire home for the disabled. Each year Gay volunteered her services to accompany some of the residents on a much needed holiday along with her two sons. During her time in Barnham Brom Norfolk Gay belonged to a fund raising committee to build a new village hall. She danced the can-can to increase the funds raised which was successful in raising the money needed. Nearly 9 years ago Ray & Gay moved to Bolnuevo where they made lots of new friends . Gay was a very caring mum who enjoyed many happy holidays with her sons. Gay had 3 lovley grandchildren , Kerry , Andreas and Nikki. She also had a Step daughter Jasmin and a great granddaughter Eve. Gay loved people and life she lit a room up when she entered it. Everyone enjoyed her company and she made everyone welcome in her home. She will be sorely missed.
